Cricket: 
  • Men’s Cricket T20 World Cup (2014): Sri Lanka lifted their maiden World Twenty20 title by beating India in the finals held at Mirpur , Bangladesh.
  • Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup (2014): Australia beat England to win their 3rd successive Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup title at Dhaka , Bangladesh.
  • Asia Cup Cricket Tournament 2014:  Sri Lanka won the 12th edition of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament 2014 by defeating defending champion Pakistan at Mirpur in Bangaldesh by five wickets.
  • ICC Under-19 World Cup 2014: For the first time, South Africa won the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup by defeating two-time former champions Pakistan by six wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
  • Irani Cup 2014: Karnataka clinched the Irani Cup 2013-14 for the fifth time after defeating Rest of India in the final held at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
  • Committee on IPL spot fixing scandal: Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee.
  • First woman in ICC umpire’s panel: New Zealand’s Kathy Cross (56) became the first woman to be inducted in the International Cricket Council‘s (ICC’s) umpires’ panel.
Hockey:
  • 60 Minutes Game: To make hockey exciting and viewer-friendly, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) introduced major changes in the structure of the sport viz. reduced the 70-minute game to 60 minutes, comprising four 15-minute quarters instead of two 35-minute halves.
Football:
  • 68th Santosh Trophy: Mizoram clinched the 68th Santosh Trophy for Football by defeating Railways by 3-0 at Siliguri ,West Bengal. 
  • FIFA world ranking: The World and European champion Spain remains No. 1 for the 29th consecutive month in the FIFA men’s soccer rankings.
  • FIFA Ballon d’Or Award 2013: Real Madrid forward footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo won the 2013 FIFA world’s best player award at FIFA Awards Ceremony in Switzerland.
Basketball:
  • The 64th National Basketball Championship: Held at the Thyagaraj Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Tamil Nadu won the men’s title by defeating Punjab by 74-57 and Chhattisgarh won the women’s title after beating Indian Railways by 81-77.
Shooting:
  • 7th Asian Air Gun Championship: At the 7th Asian Air Gun Championship in Kuwait, India’s ace shooter Ms Heena Sidhu clinched the air pistol women’s gold medal and Chain Singh bagged a gold medal in men’s air rifle event.
Tennis:
  • Dubai tennis championship 2014: Roger Federer won the Singles title at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship after defeating Tomas Berdych.
  • WTA Singles Rankings: 1. Serena Williams (United States), 2. Li Na (China).
  • Australia Open 2014: The Australian Open Tennis tournament, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, inaugurated at Melbourne, Australia. Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka won his first Grand Slam title with victory over an injury-hit Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final; Women’s Singles: Li Na (China) won her first Australian Open title against first-time major finalist Dominika Cibulková (Slovakia).
 Badminton:
  • German Open Grand Prix: Indian shuttler, Arvind Bhat defeated Denmark’s World No. 25 Hans-Kristian Vittinghus to clinch the men’s singles title of the German Open Grand Prix Gold. This is the first time an Indian has won a German Open title in any category.
Archery:
  • 34th National Archery Championship: Ace archer Deepika Kumari created history by clinching her sixth consecutive title at the 34th National Archery Championships held at JRD Tata Stadium, Jamshedpur.
Billiard:
  • Mr. Sourav Kothari won the National Billiard Championships held in Lucknow by beating Alok Kumar.
Winter Olympics 2014:
  • The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXII Olympic Winter Games, held in Sochi, Russia. Host nation Russia finished on top of the medal table by winning 33 medals in the tournament.
World Bridge Championship 2015:
  • For the first time, India will host the World Bridge Championship for Bermuda Bowl (men) and Venice Cup (women) in 2015.
