International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2014:
  • 15th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) informally known as the “Bollywood Oscars,” held in US for the first time. 
  • The 2014 IIFA Awards honoured the best films of 2013, took place between April 23-26, 2014.
  • Best Film: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
  • Best Actor: Farhan Akhtar – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
  • Best Actress: Deepika Padukone – Chennai Express
Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2013:
  • The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the Veteran poet and film lyricist Gulzar has been chosen for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2013.
  • Sampooran Singh Kalra’s pen name is Gulzar.
  • Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in cinema, conferred annually by the government for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.
ESPNcricinfo Award 2013:
  • Cricketer of the generation: Sachin Tendulkar
  • Test batting award: Shikhar Dhawan (India) 
  • Debutant of the Year (new category): Mohammed Shami (India)
  • Batsman of the Year, Best Test Batsman, and Most Consistent Batsman: AB de Villiers (South Africa).
Donald Windham Campbell Literature Prize 2014:
  • Non-Fiction - Mr. Pankaj Mishra  - The Romantics (Novel)
Stree Shakti Puraskar 2013:
  • The Government of India has instituted (awarding since 1991) six national awards are known as Stree Shakti Puraskar.
  • These awards are in the name of the following eminent women personalities in the Indian history who are famous for their personal courage and integrity: Rani Lakshmibai, Rani Rudramma Devi, Kannagi, Rani Gaidinliu Zaliang, Rani Ahilyabai Holkar and Mata Jijabai.
  • Awardees are-
  1. Rani Gaidinliu Zeliang Award: Dr. Vartika Nanda (Delhi) for creating awareness on women’s issues through media.
  2. Rani Lakshmibai Award: Ms. Manasi Pradhan (Odisha) for her work in the field of women’s empowerment.
  3. Rani Rudramma Devi Award: Dr. M Venkaiah (Andhra Pradesh) for her contribution in the field of women’s health.
  4. Mata Jijabai Award: Ms. Bina Sheth Lashkari (Maharashtra) honored for her achievement in the field of education and training
  5. Kannagi Award: T Radha K Prashanti (Andhra Pradesh) for her achievement in the field of providing support to orphans, visually impaired, handicapped and destitute women.
  6. Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Award: Dr Seema Sakhare (Maharashtra) for her contribution in the field of women’s rights, gender issues, legal counseling and institutional support to women and girls.
86th Academy Awards:
  • The 86th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
  • Best Motion picture: 12 Years a Slave.
Gandhi Peace Prize 2013:
  • The noted Gandhian and environmentalist, Mr. Chandi Prasad Bhatt selected for the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2013.
International Gandhi Award 2013:
  • The President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee presented the International Gandhi Award for the year 2013 to Dr. Vijaykumar Vinayak Dongre and Prof. Guocheng Zhang for making outstanding contributions in the field of leprosy to eradicate the disease through treatment, training and research at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
67th BAFTA Awards 2014:
  • The 67th BritishAcademy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) held at the Royal Opera House in London.
  • Best Film: 12 Years a Slave
  • Outstanding British Film: Gravity
Vyas Samman 2013:
  • The famous Hindi writer, Mr. Vishwanath Tripathi (82) honored by the prestigious Vyas Samman 2013. He has been chosen for his memoir ‘Vyomkesh Darvesh ‘that is a biography of the noted Hindi scholar Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi.
Saraswati Samman 2013:
  • The renowned Hindi author, Mr. Govind Mishra will receive Sarawasti Samman 2013 for his book “Dhool Paudho Par” published in 2008. 
World Children’s Prize (Children’s Nobel Prize) 2014:
  • For the 2014 World’s Children’s Prize, Pakistani teenage rights activist Malala Yousafzai, John Wood from the USA and Nepalese child rights worker Indira Ranamagar are nominated.
Bharat Ratna 2014:
  • President Pranab Mukherjee conferred Bharat Ratna on Prof. C N R Rao and Sachin Tendulkar.
  • Prof C.N.R.Rao is the third scientist after C V Raman and former President A P J Abdul Kalam, to be awarded with the honor.
